I wasn't really sure what the objects were that were being transformed. I had a feeling that it was a heart. And that made the video unique in a sense through line quality. The thick abrupt shaky lines looked almost like a blood pumping through the "live" object. I also appreciated your use of a different color background. You also did a really great job with the squash tool. Your objects seem to be bouncing across the screen with purpose and character.
Scott.... I did get a sense that it was a pepper to start off with. But when it transformed was where I was lost. If it was trying to transform into a box or cube, you probably would need to show that at an angle so you can get a sense of depth, otherwise it will just look like a square. The animation was fluid and I did get a sense of the pepper actually hoping around. Good job.
I like the hand-drawn feeling of your animation. It looks scrawly and handmade, but it looks like it was done that way on purpose, which is enjoyable. I would've liked to see more defining lines along with the scrawly shadows so that I could get a better feel for the object being a pepper. I thought it was some sort of vegetable, but I didn't really know it was a pepper. Also, the transformation flows pretty smoothly, but I think the object it transformed into could've been more creative. I didn't really see a reason for it to be changing into a box, and even if I didn't know the meaning for whatever it changed into, I think it would be more exciting if it was something more random or unique. Maybe it could change into a light bulb? Lastly, I think that it would add a lot to your piece if you added a shadow to it.
I feel bad for saying it but i wasnt really sure what it was either. I thought that it was some sort of fruit but, i didnt know that it was a pepper. I think that if you would have used the pen tool or even the pencil tool it would have been a little bit better. I think the squash and stretch is very nice.
I enjoyed your idea behind your concept, however the execution of the idea I think got lost in translation. I was a bit distracted by the spider that crawls through the piece, and I think you may have accidentally moved your background in one of your frames...it seems to be a little off kilter.
I think this piece could easily be upgraded by simply choosing a vector or graphic style, and spreading that style throughout all of your graphics.
I like that you incorporated a lot of traditional memento mori concepts into the piece (ie the black bird, spiders, flies, etc). I would have liked to see some more detail in the drawings. There is a weird contrast between the skull, the phones, and the table and it doesn't mesh together as well as it could. I also noticed that when rolling over the nose on the skull, the background moves. Im not sure if you meant for that to happen or if you accidently shifted the frame. The concept was nice but some with some alterations in the drawing it would be awesome.
